When bonding to old composite, I always ask the question: “are we bonding more to dentin or to old composite?” Either way, micro air abrasion (27 micron aluminum oxide) needs to be used to maximize micro mechanical retention before etching of the defect, and in this case (definitely bonding more to old composite, so 2% CHX is eliminated from the equation, as silane requires a dry field), the application of an MDP-containing silane coupling agent (G_Multi_Primer, GC) before application of G-Premio Bond (MDP, MDTP) – the latter has an affinity for the resin matrix. Following this, microlayering ensures minimal stress on your delicate interface from polymerization contraction forces before layering to full volume.
