A.P.C. is one of my favorite brands, but also happens to be one of the keystone techniques for bonding to Zr. The secret sauce is 10-MDP, an acidic monomer which is able to chemically bond to metal oxides. There is no silica in Zr, so the fact that silane is stabilized by MDP is just a coincidence that we use the same bottle.
