Deep restorations like this call for a bioactive ionic resin matrix liner like Pulpdent Activa Base/Liner (silly me, no photograph).
It is both light and dual cured, and features a rubberized resin matrix that has 2-3 times the fracture toughness of normal composites and around 5-10 times that of GICs and RMGICs. It has active ionic exchange capabiility due to its recharge-capability of Ca2+, PO43- and F- ions from its ionomer glass particles. The only downside is that it has approximately the same radiopacity as dentin – slightly greater. I wish this was more as I like to demarcate the restoration clearly radiographically.
External 1.5mm restored using a single shade of A2 Venus Pearl.
