With partial coverage composite or porcelain restorations, it is imperative to select the intended shade prior to isolation, as the refractive index of enamel changes with water content loss during dehydration. It is critical not to vary from your original selection and be tempted by the lightening substrate before your eyes. This case demonstrates how mottled appearing an edge-bonding case can be immediately post-operative. It also shows the fully-rehydrated result on reassessment.
