A breath-by-breath treatise on the reconstruction of this compromised #18/3.7MODB.

The matrix-in-matrix approach was utilized to fashion the free end extension distal marginal ridge with the Omnimatrix useful on the mesial aspect for deep marginal elevation. The assembly was removed prior to setting the internal Garrison sectional matrix on the mesial aspect with the blue tension ring. This ring is particularly useful as its small vertical footprint allows one to stack it coronal to the position of the rubber dam clamp. It’s a go-to in 85%+ of cases.

Internally, blockout of the deeply stained dentin base was achieved using microlayers of XL2 Herculite Ultra flowable. The capping composite was completed in a lobe-by-lobe fashion with buccal lobes prior to lingual lobes using the chameleon composite Kerr Simplishade Dark. This shade covers shades A3.5, A4, B3, B4, C3, C4.

Vitals:
Compressive strength: 366MPa (enamel 384MPa, dentin 297MPa reference)
Flexural strength: 140MPa (dentin 165.6MPa reference)
